Seville, Spain

Seville, Spain or as they call it here in Spain--Sevilla is only about 1 1/2 hours from us--we have flown out of the airport there a couple of times, driven through Sevilla several times, but just never stopped and did the sightseeing sights there.  A couple of weeks ago, we finally made it to Sevilla to see some of the sights there. The first thing we went to see was the Cathedral there, which is one of the largest Cathedrals in the world.  It is also where Christopher Columbus' bones are said to be, there is also somewhere in South America that also claims they have his bones--we are just going to say they are here in Sevilla, so I can say I saw them!!!  Anyways, the cathedral was amazing--we have seen LOTS of cathedrals while we have lived here, and this was one of the most impressive.

On the side of the Cathedral

It is amazing to see all the detail work.

In front of the cathedral

Family picture in front of the remains of Christopher Columbus (his body, supposedly, is in that coffin the soldiers are carrying)

Again the detail work is amazing--this was all carved into the ceiling

On top of the cathedral with all the bells!

View over the city

This is part of the old moorish palace that is here.
The main highlight of Seville, for the kids, was Plaza de España.  One of the Star Wars movies had a scene that was filmed here and Ethan, mostly, was so excited to go see where Star Wars was--we had to work on the concept that everything in the movie was make-believe.  They kept wanting to know where all the characters were from Star Wars!!  Anyways, Plaza de España was pretty impressive--it is a huge semi-circle of buildings that are accesible over the moat by a series of 4 bridges that represent the ancient kingdoms of Spain and then in the middle is a huge fountain.

Ethan always wants to take our picture--so here is his picture he took!

All wet after playing in the fountain!
