Tangiers, Morocco--GIRLS' TRIP!!

For Memorial Day, my friends, Millie and Keri and I went to Tangiers, Morocco for the day.  Morocco is a day trip for us--it is that close--pretty awesome!!  We started the day out early and drove to Tarifa, Spain and caught the ferry to Tangiers--we ended up getting to Morocco at like 8 am and spent the WHOLE day there.  It was AMAZING!!!  Morocco was fascinating--so the people there speak Arabic, French and Spanish.  It was really interesting to see all the mosques and the people dressed in their arab outfits--the head coverings, etc.  We had the best time and ate some of the BEST food.  Also, Morocco is SOOOOO cheap.  We had a guide and he took us all around.  We started by driving around the outskirts of Morocco where the rich people live--we saw where some sultans live, then we drove to the beach and rode camels (can cross that off my bucket list-have now ridden and camel and elephant), went to this cool cave called Hercule's cave and then spent the rest of the day walking around the Kasbah.  The Kasbah is the old part of the city--there were markets, restaurants, houses, etc.  It was fascinating.  Here are a couple of pictures.

Outside a mosque--Morocco has the most interesting doors--I love the keyhole doors.
Traditional islamic wear

This was interesting to me--these guys sit out in the plaza and wait for work--you can kind of see--there is a plumber, electrician, etc.

Stop sign in arabic

Moroccan spices--I came home with tons of spices--they are so cheap and smell so good!!

Camel pictures--the guy in charge of the camels kept wanting us to put our hands up--so that is why they are up in ALL of our pictures!!

Hercules cave--the opening of the cave looks like the continent of Africa inverted.  They say this cave is where Hercules split apart Morocco and Spain.
More cool arched ways

You can't go to Morocco without seeing rugs--here we are learning to weave a rug

Rugs, Rugs, Rugs!!!

I loved this one!

Nuts, fruits, olives, etc.  The market was amazing!

Top of a mosque

Loved all the pottery

I really wish I would have gotten a tagine--we had a couple of dishes made in tagines and they were amazing--next time I go to Morocco I am buying one!!
